Finance Directorate: Charged with the collection and
accountability of Council revenue, and financial management in accordance
with Council’s plans, budgets and regulations.
Works and Physical Planning Directorate: Has two branches. Works
and Engineering, and Physical Planning. The Works branch is
responsible for road design, construction and maintenance,
and drainage. The Electrical section handles traffic and
Street lighting while the mechanical section manages Council’s
fleet, equipment and plant. Physical Planning and Land Management
on the other hand is. responsible for town planning and preparation
of schemes as per the structure Plan of the city and those of the Divisions.
Education, Information and Sports Directorate: Superintends over
Pre-primary schools, Primary schools, Secondary schools and Vocational
institutions. Is is also responsible for both schools and community sports.
Community Services Directorate: This department directorate puts
special emphasis on vulnerable groups like women, the youth, street children,
the disabled and destitute to harness their potential for meaningful development.
It also champions gender issues.
Health, Hygiene and Environment Improvement Directorate: The goal
of this department is to reduce morbidity and mortality levels in Kampala
City. Its major branches are curative and preventive health care, ante-natal
services and Environment Management.
Audit Directorate: Carries out independent review appraisal and
assessment of Councils transactions to ensure adherence to financial and
accounting regulations and value for money.
Corporate Services Directorate: Headed by the Deputy Town Clerk,
this directorate comprises a number of support services which include
Administrative Services, Legal Services, Information and Communication
Technology, Human Resource Management, Public Relations, Economic Planning,
the Office of the Clerk to Council, and Statutory Commissions and Boards.
These Directrates do not only operate at the headquarters, but are
replicated at each Division level at the grass roots to serve Kampala
who are far from the City Hall. |
